David K. Moran, MBA, CMC
During a career that spans over 35 years in both commercial and federal government environments, Mr. Moran has developed a respected reputation as an accountant, financial executive, and management consultant. His experience has focused on providing value added services that help clients and previous employers solve difficult problems, improve performance and achieve desired results.
Mr. Moran’s areas of expertise include strategic planning, financial management and analysis, and government contracts accounting compliance. He is committed to the highest level of integrity and ethical conduct as a professional management consultant.
In 1996, he founded Moran Management Consulting Group (MMCG), a management consulting company designed to help small to mid-size companies seeking measurable improvements in profitability, productivity, and shareholder value. The firm also specializes in providing consulting services to government contractors wishing to remediate or implement accounting systems for compliance with federal contracting and DCAA requirements.
Prior to launching his consulting career, Mr. Moran held a variety of senior financial management positions. His early experience included nearly 15 years as a financial executive for high-technology manufacturing firms in California’s Silicon Valley. These firms were in industries that included digital telecommunications, custom integrated circuits, and consumer electronics (video games and desktop computers). For these companies he served as Vice President of Finance and Administration (Telco Systems Network Access Corp.), Corporate Controller (MicroPower Systems), Vice President & Corporate Controller (Centurion Industries), and Director of Worldwide Manufacturing Finance (Atari). He has extensive experience in both process and product based manufacturing environments using standard cost accounting systems. After relocating with his family to Anchorage, Alaska in 1990, he also spent several years as Executive Vice President and CFO for the state’s largest advertising agency (Bradley/Reid Communications).
Mr. Moran has provided management consulting services to clients in a variety of industries. Clients engaged specifically in federal government contracting and 8(a) operations include several Alaska Native Corporations: Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, Arctic Slope Consulting Group, Cape Fox Corporation, Koniag Inc., and NANA Development Corporation. Other industries served include advertising, business training, education, entertainment, financial services, federal and state agencies, food service, public utilities, telecommunications, and transportation.
Under a consulting agreement beginning in January 2009, Mr. Moran provided CFO consulting services to Cape Fox Corporation (CFC), a multi-subsidiary Alaska Native Corporation with extensive 8(a) government contract operations and annual revenue in excess of $200 million. Over a three year period, Mr. Moran helped orchestrate the company’s financial turnaround by implementing policies and processes to effectively measure, monitor and control performance while significantly improving profitability and cash flow. He also founded and served as CEO of Cape Fox Shared Services (CFSS), the centralized provider of finance, accounting, human resources, IT/network management and contract administration services to all CFC government contract subsidiaries. CFSS was instrumental in helping CFC achieve and demonstrate appropriate FAR and DCAA compliance during its recovery from an earlier suspension and debarment of two CFC subsidiary companies, and its continued operation under a formal Administrative Agreement with the federal government.
In 2012, MMCG teamed with Kourcklas Consulting to jointly focus on providing consulting services for small to mid-size government contractors wishing to remediate or implement accounting systems for compliance with federal contracting and DCAA requirements.
Mr. Moran holds a B.S. in Aeronautical Operations from San Jose State University, as well as an M.B.A. from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. He is a Certified Management Consultant, and a member of the Institute of Management Consultants and the Institute of Management Accountants.
